A world of no fractions

What is a fraction?
Is fraction necessary?
How will the world be without fractions?
Do you use fractions in your everyday routine?
What are the 4 basic operators?
Are these true or false? Explain.

1. 3/(7x) + 2/(7x) = 5 /(14x)
2. 3/(7x) + 2/(7x) = 5 /(7x)
3. 4/(9) = 4 x 1/9

  1. what is a fraction? well a fraction is a segment or portion of something, essentially a fraction is a number that represents part of a whole number, that whole number being 1. For example, in order to equally share a pizza between 8 people, the pizza would have to be cut into 8 equal parts, each part being a fraction i.e. 1/8. Or if the pizza was to be shared between 4 people, equally, each piece would have to be 1/4 or 2/8, which when reduced is the same as 1/4. Or two people would be 1/2 or 4/8 each or 16 people would be 1/16 each etc

  2. what is a fraction? a fraction can be seen as a number that can represent part of a whole number, or an expression which represents a quotient of two quantities....eg 2/3 etc.
fractions are necessary to divide things equally.
the world would have no order without fractions....lets say we only had 1 political party to run trinidad the country may be one sided but there are two parties output add up which wrk to give one {WHOLE}!!!!!! output.

  3. Fractions are very necessary, why? without fractions everything would have to be whole, meaning all measurements would have to be exact whole numbers, there would be no such thing as 1/2 an inch or 1/2 a litre. When measuring almost anything in existence, that can be measured it would almost always not be an exact metre, kilogram, Litre, foot etc etc. And thus would require the use of fractions. Without fractions, then we would have to do alot of guesswork which could and would lead to alot of incorrect measurements which in turn could lead to poor infrastructure, poorly manufactured cars, and more materials would be required to make it an exact metre or whatever the case may be and would thus be more costly. Even when making calculations, there would be no such thing as a decimal point, because all decimals are fractions.

  4. yes i do use fractions in my everyday routine, and most of the time i do it subconsciously. For instance everyday when feeding my dogs i give them 3 and 1/2 cups each, without fractions i couldn't possibly do that.

  5. The four basic operators are simply:
    1) Addition '+'
    2) Subtraction '-'
    3) Multiplication 'x' or '*'
    4) Division '/'

    ReplyDelete
  6. 1. 3/(7x) + 2/(7x) = 5 /(14x)
False - because when adding two fractions of the same base or denominator (number at the bottom) only the numerators (the numbers at the top) are added and in this case both the numerators and the denominators are added so therefore this equations is incorrect

    2. 3/(7x) + 2/(7x) = 5 /(7x)
True - since the only numbers added here are the numerators so therefore this equation is correct

    3. 4/(9) = 4 x 1/9
True - in this case anything goes since it is multiplication, unlike the other 2 which were addition. In multiplication no matter what the denominator or numerator is, the question can be worked out by simply multiplying the numerators and denominators. In this example the numerators are 4 and 1, while the denominators are 1 and 9 (1 because 4 is the same as 4/1) and when multiplied the answer is simply 4/9, because 4x1=4 and 1x9=9

    ReplyDelete
  7. 4. is also false since it is simply a blank space :)

    ReplyDelete
  8. the four basic operators are: addition, subtraction, division and multiplication. fractions are a part of everyday life, for example simply cutting up a piece of roti or a piece of bake. a fraction is an equal part of a whole. the world without fractions would be a world without sharing.
3/(7) + 2/(7) = 5/(7) - simply add the numerator because the base is the same.

    4/(9) = 4*1/9 - false, because it is less than a whole.

3/(7*) + 2/(7*) = 5 (14*)- false beacuse only the numerator is supposed to be added when you have the same denominator. the denominator was not supposed to be multiplied.

    ReplyDelete
  9. a fraction is a number which has a numerator and a denominator and a division sign... which means that the top number (the numerator) is divided by the bottom number (the denominator).

    ReplyDelete
  10. for the questions
    1) is false since the common denominator is 7x and the answer will be 5/7x.
    2) is corrects using LCM you will get 2+3/7x will will equal to 5/7x/
    3) the third one is correct since multiplying it will equal to 4*1/9 will be equivalent to 4/9.

    ReplyDelete
  11. the four basic operations are multiplication (*), division (/), addition (+) and subtraction(-).

    ReplyDelete
  12. Mathematically a fraction is an expression that indicates the quotient of two quantities.
In my opinion it can be considered to be
    A disconnected piece; a fragment.
A small part; a bit: moved a fraction of a step.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I think that fractions are necessary because without them any system of measurement would not function at all.
Yes I use fractions in my everyday routine
for example the amount of salt I put in my eggs, the amount of sugar I put into my tea and the list goes on simply to show how necessary fractions are.

    ReplyDelete
  14. The four basic operations are
    addition
    subtraction
    multiplication
    division

    ReplyDelete
  15. A fraction is the ratio of two whole numbers, or to put it simply, one whole number divided by another whole number.Fractions is necessary because without it we will never find the exact value of anything. The world will be a mess without fraction with alot of stuff not workin.the 4 basic operators in maths are addition ,multiplcation, subtraction and division. 1.this is false because the LCM is 7x not 14x. 2. this is true. 3.this is true

    ReplyDelete
  16. in mathematical terms, a fraction is defined as the quotient of 2 integers, meaning that its the answer represents a piece of another whole number, eg. 1/4 (a quarter)

    ReplyDelete
  17. A fraction is not necessary. An answer can be stated as a decimal; for example, 1/4 is the same as 0.25, but a fraction makes it easier to state the value, and allows for ease of calculation

    ReplyDelete
  18. how would the world be without fractions....hmm...it would be 1/100 as interesting as it is right now...LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Yep, i use fractions in my everyday routine, namely time management, 1/2 hour to exercise, 3/4 hour to do homework...see...i use fractions

    ReplyDelete
  20. the 4 basic operators:
    1) Addition
    2) Subtraction
    3) Multiplication
    4) Division

    ReplyDelete
  21. 1. 3/(7x) + 2/(7x) = 5 /(14x) - FALSE!!!!!!!!!
Only the numerator (number on top) is affected during an addition or subtraction of a fraction of same denominator (bottom number)

    ReplyDelete
  22. 2. 3/(7x) + 2/(7x) = 5 /(7x) - TRUE
As i stated before, during addition and subtraction, only the numerator is affected and in this equation it clearly follows this rule

    ReplyDelete
  23. 3. 4/(9) = 4 x 1/9 - True
Any number multiplied by a fraction automatically gains the denominator (number on the bottom) with the exception that the number being multiplied has the same value as that of the denominator; eg. 10 x 1/10 (in this case the answer will be 1

    ReplyDelete
  24. what is fractions? a fraction is part of something whole. it is represented often by a number over a line an one that is under.the undermeath number represent how much to make to make a whole and the top represent how much is actually part of the whole. for eg. if there was 2/3 then it have two parts of the whole and three part would make a whole. fraction are necessary because it helps to provide equality, scales. yes i use fraction everyday and it is necessary

    ReplyDelete
  25. there would be no sharing. one and three is correct.

    ReplyDelete
  26. a fraction is a part of a whole......fractions has both a numerator and a denominator, the top number and the bottom number respectively.

    ReplyDelete
  27. yes....fractions are necessary. without fractions the world would be weird.....very weird....for example the countries in the world would not be seperated but joined togeather.....uhhh!!!

    ReplyDelete
  28. yes.....we use fractions in our everyday lifes.....for example when making a sandwitch we dont use the whole bread but a fraction of the bread (ah talkin bout ah slice bread eh not hops...lol..)

    ReplyDelete
  29. Fraction,,,,(this always makes a problem look scary)....hmmmmmm ....well...A fraction is the top number (called the numerator) divided by the bottom number (called the denominator). If we have a group of 40 people and 7 of them are under the age of 16, we can say the fraction of people in the group under the age of 18 is 7/40.

    addition (+)
    subtraction (-)
    division (/)
    multiplication (*) or (x)

    ReplyDelete
  31. well in the morning i always use fractions for breakfast!!!! (no i don't eat it) =D.....wen mommy make a roti....i eat 1/2 =D....d roti was a whole.....and well we usually devide it in quarters....(4)...pieces...

    ReplyDelete
  32. #1 is false since the bases are the same it would remain the same and only the top numbers or the numerator would be added

    ReplyDelete
  33. four basic operations...

    addition (+)

    subtraction (-)

    multiplication (x)

    division (÷)

    BASIC BASIC BASIC!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  34. #2 is true.....since the bases are the same it remains the same and only the numerator is added thus the answer.....

    ReplyDelete
  35. A fraction is a numerical value that represents part of a whole. It consists of a numerator and a denominator and can be added, subtracted, multiplied or divided.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Yes u do use fractions in your everyday routines!. For example:by slicing a pizza for dinner, u need to cut it into fractions so that everyone will get a part of the whole (pizza).

    ReplyDelete
  37. the 4 basic operators: add, minus, multiply and divide

    ReplyDelete
  38. number 2 is definately true, because u have 2 common denominators, therefore, u can just simply add the numerators to arrive at an ans.

    ReplyDelete
  39. no. 1 is false, u are not supposed to add the denominators. they are common, so u leave them as they are(7x)

    ReplyDelete
  40. This comment has been removed by the author.

    ReplyDelete
  41. hmmmm! the world without fractions. i would have to say that there will be no division amoung ourselves. We will not be able to arrive at an sample of anything, nor will we be able to share any part of a whole.

    ReplyDelete
  42. the basic operators are addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division

    ReplyDelete
  43. a fraction is any number that can be used to represent a part of a whole. there is also the fraction called "decimal fracion", also known as um...decimal.

    ReplyDelete
  44. a fraction is a number that is used to represtent a part of a whole and yes it is also known as a decimal fraction but most common called... decimal

    ReplyDelete
  45. Fractions are a sort of measurement. Fractions are important because in reality if we choose to find the weight of an object for engineering purposes or other wise, and fractions are not involved...say we just estimate a whole number, then one cannot get a precise value to work with and therefore unecessary problems would arise. So in actual reality fractions are important

    ReplyDelete
  46. a world without fractions, for example you would not be able to tell your friend to break a cookie in half n give you piece you could only tell them break it into and we all like equality when it comes to good things. A glass of water could never be expressed as "half full/ three-quaters full.... cant even say you want a quater roti" ...Fractions are part of our language and also mathematics

    ReplyDelete
  47. Of course i use fraction in my everyday routine..this morning i had a half a glass of juice......and my friend ate my whole sandwich

    ReplyDelete
  48. The four basic operators cause increase or decrease to resulting numbers

The four (4) basic operators are :

    Addition (+)
    Subtraction (-)
    Multiplication (x)
    Division (/

    ReplyDelete
  49. 1) FALSE
Reason being when the denominator (the number on the bottom) is the same, you add the 2 numerators (the number on top) ONLY

    ReplyDelete
  50. 2)True
Reason being only the numerators were added and not the denominators hence the ans is correct

    3)False
Reason being 4/9 is a fraction, a part of a whole number and therefore cannot be 4(1/9) because that is a combination of a whole with a fraction

    ReplyDelete
  51. the 4 basic operators are:
    multiplication x or *
    addition +
    subtraction -
    division /

    ReplyDelete
  52. a fraction is a number less than 1 but greater than 0 and can be used to represent anything that has been broken up into smaller pieces or parts.

    ReplyDelete
  53. a fraction is part of a whole!

    ReplyDelete
  55. 4 basic operators
    addition (+)
    subtraction (-)
    multiplication (*)
    division (/)

    ReplyDelete
  56. (1) that answer is wrong...in addition on fractions, if the denominator is the same, only the numerators are added an the denominator is left the same

    (2) that answer is right as the denominator was left the same an only the numerators were added

    (3) 4/(9) = 4* 1/(9)
the number 4 can be stated as 4/1
4/1 * 1/9....the numerators are multiplied to give 4 an the denominators are multiplied to give 9
therefore the answer is 4/9 making this equation true

    ReplyDelete
  57. a fraction is a number that expresses part of a group. a fraction can be written in the form a/b where "a" is the numerator (number of parts chosen to be represented) an "b" is the denominator (the total number of parts)

    ReplyDelete
  58. in my opinion fractions are necessary to an extent..wen we use many systems of measurement we never always have a whole answer but answers like 4 1/2 or 10 3/4 , which in my opinion again is still never accurate because one answer might be a little more than 10 3/4 but less than 11. a decimal now would be more accurate. nevertheless fractions are important in life

    ReplyDelete
  59. the four basic operations is addition(+), subtraction(-0),multipilication(*) and division(/).

    ReplyDelete
  60. What is a fraction?
A fraction is the top number (called the numerator) divided by the bottom number (called the denominator).

    ReplyDelete
  61. Is fraction necessary?
fractions are very important and unavoidable.
Fractions are especially necessary in accurate measure in reality.

    ReplyDelete
  62. How will the world be without fractions?
the will be lots of chaos, because everything will be built on estimate or average, because there is no accuracy without fractions.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Do you use fractions in your everyday routine?
yes i do, throught the day. for example i use a fraction of a tube of toothpaste to brush my teeth.

    ReplyDelete
  64. What are the 4 basic operators?
the four basic operators are ....addition +.....subraction -.......multiplication x.... and division /...

    ReplyDelete
  65. a world withno fractions is a world that simply won't exist, there must be division in the world in some form or the other this could be a negative or a positive thing, a fraction of the world speaks english a fraction speaks french. a fraction is written like 3/6 and this also means 3 divided by 6.
a world with no fractions mean we'll can't share a cake or we'll can't pay a taxi man a fraction off a hundred dollar bill if we don't have change we'll have to give him the whole hundred dollar bill.

    ReplyDelete
  66. the following are true
    3/7x + 2/7x = 5/7x
u are adding two fractions off the same whole,7x

    4/9 = 4 x 1/9

    ReplyDelete
  67. the 4 basic operators are
    addition
    division
    multiplication
    division

with these u can do anything
we say addmaths and some types of sums are hard
but they are these same operators that are placed in a simple order to solve that type of problem

i like to think to solve a problems or get to the root of a problem you apply the equation concept - do the opposite of what was done
if u added to get back to the start you divided
    Its simple

But in real like its a confusing to apply the maths to what we did so how will we be able to undo it?

    what do u all think

    ReplyDelete
  68. VERY SIMPLE
a fraction is a representation of division and ratios .
we know that when talking about ratios we are talking about portions ,now e.g. 6/2,6 represents the value assigned to the whole ,while 2 represents the proportions which it is divided into.now if you take 1:2,this shows that what ever you have on the left is doubled on the right,so know ,knowing that 12/4 is the same as 6/3we see that fractions are most important because they not only represent division ,they also show the proportions by which quatities are related.

    ReplyDelete
  69. ARE FRACTIONS NECESSARY
    obviously NOOOOOOO.
we did'nt have to call it fractions and we could have used any form of symbolism to represent the operations.what is necessary is that we as humans retain the abuility to reconize when something is bigger or smaller ,to understand proportins (division),simpley ,it is necessary to our survival that we can conceptualize these ideas and operations

    ReplyDelete
  70. mathematically a fraction is a ratio of 2 numbers. in a real life situation on the other hand a fraction may refer to a portion, a segment, a sum, a samlple etc.

    ReplyDelete
  71. fractions are important because it gives an indication to the ratio in which things are distributed and how much of it is distributed

    ReplyDelete
  72. the answer to how fractions are used would summarize and reflect the idea how the world would be without fractions.

fractions are used in management of time eg. how much time is used for rest, recreation, schooling etc. each one of these is done for a 'portion' of an average day. since a fraction is a ratio it can be found what most time is spent doing and inferences of personal preferences can be concluded by statistics such as these

    ReplyDelete
  73. so it goes to say the importance of fractions could reflect one's priorties it reflects what they consider important to them how they act toward it , how much time is dedicated toward it etc.

    ReplyDelete
  74. the four basic operators in mathematics are addition, multiplication , subtraction , division

    ReplyDelete
  75. 1) is false because there is already a lowest common denominator (L.C.M) which is 7x hence the syntax of this solution is incorrect the correct approach to this question is seen in part (2)

    3) 4/9 = 4 x 1/9 is true since an expanded version of this sum can be written as 4/1 x 1/9 which can be simplified to 4 x 1/9 or further simplified to 4/9

    ReplyDelete
  76. i would agree with all the explainations of what is fraction, they all are saying the same think which is identifying what is a fraction...

    ReplyDelete
  77. Of course fractions are necessary we use them in every aspect of our every day life and it's part of almost every thing, and again it is after all a mathematical statement which makes it not just necessary but very much important.

    ReplyDelete
  78. i guess a world without fractions would be a place where there is no specific accuracy and every thing would be always less or more, that would mean there would be only whole numbers .........

    ReplyDelete
  79. yes i do use fractions in my every day routine,it is being used by people without there awareness, that is just to show how important it is to life on the whole.

    ReplyDelete
  80. the 4 basic operators are addition, subtraction, division and multiplication.

    ReplyDelete
  81. what is a fraction? a fraction is a number that is not a hole number in other words a fraction is a number less than one such as 1/2 1/4 1/3 .............

    ReplyDelete
  82. what is the four basic operators? the four basic operators are:(1)subtraction
    (2)addition
    (3)devision
    (4)multiplication

    ReplyDelete
  83. A fraction is the ratio of two whole numbers ,or to put it simply, one whole number divided by another whole number.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Fraction is necessary because if not, life would have been very complicated.

    ReplyDelete
  85. The 4 basic operators are: multiplication, division, addition and subtraction.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Fractions consist of a denominator which is the bottom number which gives the number of parts in the whole as well as a numerator which is the top number that tells how many parts are showing.

    ReplyDelete
  87. fractions are necessary they tell us about parts in relationship to a whole. That is, they give information about proportions or ratios.

    ReplyDelete
  88. What would our world be like without fractions? Our language would certainly change!

You could never tell a friend to break a cookie in "half" to share with you. You could only tell them to break it into two pieces. A glass containing water could never be described as "half full." How could you describe this glass? There would be no such thing as "half past the hour" with timekeeping. You could never say you are "halfway" there when traveling.

Obviously, fractions are truly an important part of our language.

    ReplyDelete
  89. yea i do use fractions in my everyday routine, for instance when i eat roti on mornings. I do not eat ah whole 1 but a half or quarter of it!!

    ReplyDelete
  90. AS for the four basic operators they are simply:
    addition.
    subtraction.
    division.
    multiplication.

    ReplyDelete
  91. A fraction can be described as somthing that contains a numerator and a denominator and is separated by a division slash (/) or whatever it is called. Both the numerator and denominator are intergers, for example 2/1 is a fraction as well as x/2 and f/d (assuming x,f,d represents intergers)

    ReplyDelete
  92. OFCOURSE fractions are necessary...everyday we use fractions in our daily life...when we eat food,we not always eat the entire pot. We eat a fraction of the food that is in the pot. When we organise our time tables,we use fractions to calculate how much time is spent doing specific tasks and studies, Miss used an example of a pizza in class already...Do u always go to pizza hut an order a 12 slice and eat the entire thing yourself...NO right,u use fractons to share it amongst you an your friends...YES fractions are very important!

    ReplyDelete
  93. How will the world be without fractions you say...well,first of all...Will there even be a world to begin with? Our planet earth is basically made from fractions. A fraction of the earth is made of water, another is made up of soil, a fraction of the earth contains lava an other esential rocks and minerals.Even the air we breath is made up of fractions of Nitrogen,Oxygen,Argon,Carbon dioxid and other gases. Can imagine if the air was solely composed of carbon dioxide, then we would not be able to even breath...I think if the world could exsist without fractions we would be a WHOLE different species...hahahaha

    ReplyDelete
  94. YES i do use fractions in my everyday routine...my entire day is divided into fractions of activities such as eating, sleeping, studying, playing etc.

    ReplyDelete
  95. The four basic operators are: subtraction, addition, division and multiplication

    ReplyDelete
  96. Question 1. is False...because...
    3/7x +2/7x= 5/7x

When dealing with the same (common) denominator i.e 7x, the answer is the sum of the numerators (3 and 2) over their common denominator.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Question 2. is True as i explained above...about the common denominator an so forth...i do not feel the need to repeat myself.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Question 3. is also True because 4 is a whole number and therefore it can me written like 4/1,so when u multiply both fractions
    i.e 4/1 X 1/9 = 4/9

Because the rules for multiplying fractions goes as follows:
    (i)Multiply the numerators.
    (ii)Multiply the denominators.
(iii)Simplify or reduce the resulting fraction, if possible.

    ReplyDelete
  99. uhm Question 4? miss wheres question 4?
There isnt any question 4 is there?
awwwwww and i was enjoying this easy queezy fractions Topic..

    ReplyDelete
  100. A fraction is a portion or segment of a whole something. example let's say that we have 20 vests, and Samuel has 5 vests out of the 20 vests. this means that Samuel has 5/20.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Yes! Fractions are necessary because if it did not exist then everything would have to be whole. Mesurements would have to be exact.whatever i have would be mine because i would not be able to share. Pieces would be inexistent.

    ReplyDelete
  102. The world would not be as we know it if it were not for fractions. it would either be all water, land or air.everthing would have to be exact. nothing would be able to be done in pieces and it would be very difficult.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Yes! I do use fractions everyday. when i am preparing for school, i first put on a fraction of my clothes at a time. I eat my breakfast piece by piece. I drink some of tea otherwise I would choke if I drank it all at the same time. ect. Fractions must be used everyday

    ReplyDelete
  104. The four basic operators are:
    multiply (*)
    divide (/)
    subtract (-)
    add (+)

    ReplyDelete
  105. Question 1
    3/(7x)+ 2/(7x) = 5/(14x) => False

When adding fractions with the same denominator, the demoninator must remain the same

    ReplyDelete
  106. Question 2
    3/(7x) + 2/(7x) = 5/(7x) => True

Fractions with the same denominator when added the denominator remains the same.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Question 3
    4/9 = 4*1/9 => True

A dividor is the same as the inverse of that number being multipled. For example : 4/9 = 4 ninths. 4 * 1/9 = 4 ninths

  108. answering what is a fraction

In regular terms i think a fraction is part of a whole or infact part of anything which can be considered a whole.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Where as in mathimaticals term
I think that a fraction is the ratio of two whole numbers or a whole number divided by a whole number

    ReplyDelete
  110. Answering question is fractions necessary

I think that fraction are necessary because i our life everything deals with fractions. for exaample if we eat a slice of pizza that is fraction

    ReplyDelete
  111. In ones life we use time and we monitior time and when we record how long something takes to be done for eq 35min to was the car that 35mins is part of 1 hr or 60mins which is part of a day which is part of a week and a week is part of a month and so on.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Also i think that with out fractions being present if we use sugar or peas we would not always use all of it .or all of everything we have then we would have to keep buy things .so it help use to conserve.

    ReplyDelete
  113. A really good example of why fracttions is important is when the government do a budget. For a budget is the use of fraction and is a step up which allow for the management of the countrys finances of else the country would not run smoothly.

If my example of portraying how it is important please feel free to correct

    ReplyDelete
  114. a fraction is number used to represent a part or a segment of a hole.it also has a numerator and a denominator.

    ReplyDelete
  115. The four basic operation of fraction are

    addition +

    4/(9) = 4 x 1/9 - True
due n to any number which is multiplied by a fraction would gains the denominator (number on the bottom)

    ReplyDelete
  120. How to solve 3)
take 4 and change it to be stated as 4/1
4/1 * 1/9....then make sure numerators are multiplied
    which would then give 4
an the denominators are multiplied to give 9
The answer would be 4/9 making this equation true
