Identify any use of fractions from your day so far?
Why do you associate fraction with that scenario?
What would happen if a whole number was used in your scenario instead of a fraction?

i used a tape to measure the length of a piece of wood it was 35inches 3/8 in length if they where no frations how would we take measurements that were not whole number. A whole number could not be used the piece of wood would not fit in a desired place were i measured
ReplyDeleteI exercise two hours everyday out of twenty four hours in a day. That is one twelveth of the day i exercise. If i was to exercise for twenty four hours that will mean the entire day, where i will not have time to do anything else and i have chores which will be incomplete and that will make my mother very angry that can possibly lead to me being grounded.
ReplyDeletei used fraction today in programming. by setting the limitations to the program. i used it to set the way in which at the end of each loop either a fraction is formed or a whole number is formed..
ReplyDeletethe program starts with 2.
then the loop of X>2 &&x< 100 then x*2.5
then the 2.5 *2
and the loops goes on till it is less than 100
well i went to the cafeteria today and bouth a bottled water. and i paid $3.50. As i was told earlier by GL 3.5 is a fraction it just means 3 and a half (3) 1/2. now currency is a big area in every day life and fractions are constantly needed. some may say why bother this 1/2 is just fifty cents. but think about it if i just had 10 of them that is $5 so i counts. And in these hard times every penny counts.
ReplyDeletelolz
ReplyDeletethats is correct fractions are good to know so that u will know if the correct changes are given to you...thats another advantage to fractions..
yes that is true and to show you in this example fractions are a part of every day life. You need not even think about it and you do not even know you are adding and subtracting fractions. AND LOOK AT THAT NO CALCULATOR!!! do you go in the parlor and take out your calculator and tell the man hold on??
ReplyDeleteNO!! you already know how much change you need to get. soooo see maths is all around us and we do it all the time just we do not notice it.
I used fractions this morning when i was combing my hair, how long i combed my hair for. i also used fractions when i made tea and was deciding how much milk to add, hence i did not add the whole tin of milk.
ReplyDeletefractions are associated with this scenario because it told me how much to use out of a whole.
If a whole number was used instead of a fraction i would have had to use the whole thing because i would not be able to use part.
Non living things use or takes up a fraction of the space on earth its obvious cause if they took up the whole space there would be no room for us humans to live.
ReplyDeletewhen i woke up, i brushed my teeth. i used a fraction of the toothpaste to brush.
ReplyDeleteif a whole number was used in my "teeth brushing" scenario,..i would say that every morning, i would use an entire bottle of toothpaste and we would have to pay alot of money buying that amount. :)
ReplyDeletei drank half of a mountain dew soft drink and about a quarter of a brownie. if i had consumed everything, i would have been throwing up by now because i would have an upset stomach due to overeating. fractions paint a picture. it gives an amount of something should it have to be calculated or not.

Tellin the time....to chech hours passed in day, minutes in hours and seconds in minutes....tellin the time would be in accurate if whole numbers was used
today i used fractions in ensc

meaning
current is equal to the voltage divided by the curcuit's resistance

ReplyDeletetoday i used fractions when i paied the taxi i gave him 1/4 the value of my $20 bill and when i drank a glasss of water this morning i had 1/12 my recommened daily water intake
ReplyDeletei associated fractions because i could not drink 12 glasses of water at once so i had part of the amount which made it a fraction
ReplyDeleteamd when i paied the taxi $5.00 out of the $20.00 it was a quater of the amount need and besides that i am not going to give away my money foolishly
if a whole number was uesd instead i would be one step closer to being broke and my belly would hurt in the morning from being over full and in the night i would be very tirsty
ReplyDeletethis morning when i woke up i ate half a roti and cheese and drank three quarter of my cup of coffee before realizing i had two thirds of an hour to get ready for school or i would be late
ReplyDeleteI used fractions in my scenario because it was easier than saying 0.5 or 50% of a roti, 0.75 or 75% of my coffee and 0.66666 or 66.666666666% of an hour...if i were to say it in decimals or percentages...i would have still been stuck on the time i had to get ready...if i started my story since this morning
ReplyDeleteif whole numbers were used in my scenario...i would have eaten a whole roti, drank a whole cup of coffee...and realized i had an entire hour to get ready...that is over-exaggeration of the facts...lol

ReplyDeletehehe okay...lol....for lunch today i had 1/4 of a 12 slice pizza...after i had eaten that i was soooooo full....i felt like a cow...lol imagine if there was no such thing as fractions*sigh* and i had to eat the entire pizza? lol what would the world be like?hmmmmmmmmmmmm lol
ReplyDeletei bought an apple this afternoon an shared it with my smaller cousins ..there were seven of them so i cut it into eight equal parts..
ReplyDeletei associated fraction with that scenario because i decided to share..
ReplyDeletethen i would've buy 8 apples instead which would cost alot or eat my apple without sharing which would've been mean ..so thank god there's fractions..lol.
ReplyDeletetoday i bought a roti and ate only half of it because i was not very hungry. i decided to eat the chichen only but it was raw so i only took a bite... these are fractions because i only ate parts of the two wholes...
ReplyDeletei assocation fractions with my scenario because only portions were used out the whole...
ReplyDeleteif i ate the entire roti then i would have become way... too full and got really lazy
ReplyDeleteif i ate the entire raw chicken then i would feel really sick.....
ReplyDeleteToday i had half of an orange, i spent four(4)hours from the 24hors of the my day bloging and i sleept for half of an hour
ReplyDeletebecause i only had part(1/2) of the orange and not the whole orange
ReplyDeleteI had 1/2 of an orange.
ReplyDeletenote: the statement is not a fraction but
1/2 is a fraction becaues it has a
division sign.
If i was to have the whole orange then there would not be a fraction
ReplyDeleteThis morning i ate a 1/4 of a roti.
ReplyDeletei associate fractions with the roti i ate bcuz i ate only a quarter(1/4), not the whole thing.
ReplyDeleteif a whole number was used instead i might not have been hungry for a good while.
ReplyDeletei used a fraction of this whole page to write this comment
ReplyDeletewe use fractions every second.watch this at around 6 i ate 1/8 of a pizza and drank a 1/2 glass of soda. 6 is a fraction of 24. we need fractions to keep track of time, days, dates almost everything needs to be divided in order to be useful.
ReplyDeleteI eat two scoops of ice-cream. this is
ReplyDeletea fraction because 2 scoops belong to a whole that is a bucket of ice-cream.which means that 2 scoops are taken out of the total scoops possibly in the bucket.
this morning i had 1/4 of a sada roti and bhagi for breakfast..... if fractions were not around i couldn't have said i ate a 1/4 but rather i would have had to eat the whole roti..... cuz without fractions everything would be a whole
ReplyDeleteevery morning i take one tablet of vitamin. if we didnt have fractions i would of taken the whole bottle or more than the required amount and that would be fatal
ReplyDeleteit takes one bag of cement for every four barrows of gravel to mix mortor.if more cement is use then it would be a waste of cement and money would be lost and if more gravel is used per bag of cement then the mixure would be poor causing more harm in the construction costing more money to re-construct
ReplyDeletei baked a cake for my mummy's birthday, i cut it into 8 pieces. i brought 3 pieces to school today and the remaining 5 stayed at home. So, i can say 3/8 was missing from the table home this morning and 5/8 was there on the table.
ReplyDeleteFractions, to me is an easier way as compared to decimals to shared and represent information. Fractions are part of our everyday lives.
ReplyDeletehmmm if i used the whole cake then 8 ppl in school would have gotten food poisoning!lol....
ReplyDelete2day my family and i went to lunch in papa johns and we bought a pizza with 8 slice and each person took 2 slices. therefore i can say each person took 1/4 of d pizza.
ReplyDeletebefore i went to lunch with my family i travelled to school in the morning. i spent $10 in passage out of $50. so i can say i used 1/5 of my money to travell.
ReplyDelete2day i put in a 20 dollars phone card and i made a call for 3 minutes and it cost 4 dollars.so i used 1/5 of the 20 dollars.
ReplyDeletefractions tell you how much of a whole you have used and what is left back.
ReplyDeletei associated factions with my family because if i ate a 1/2 of d pizza instead of a 1/4 then my sister would have starved..lolz
ReplyDeletei asociated my self with fractions again because if i spent more than $10 in passage then i will have to eat cheap snacks with ASJAtc2 because i am saving $20 each day..lolz
ReplyDeleteif i used the whole $20 phone card then i will not any to used the next day or in case of emergency..
ReplyDeleteif i ate the entire pizza then my family would not have had nothing to eat and i will get a long lecture from my mommy. lolz so i associate fractions in averyday life...lolz :)
ReplyDeleteand then you might have gotten sick and you wouldn't want that,, now would you ???lol..
ReplyDeleteas you all know christmas is coming up and it is not quite feasible to spend all my money with the amount of gifts i have to buy..lol.. so in order to solve this situation i came up with a financial plan to save 5/10 of my allowance every week in order to be able to put smiles on peoples faces.. this is a method that i used today which involved fractions.
ReplyDeletei ate a fraction of a pizza today....mabe half only because i was hungry.....very hungry...hehehe
ReplyDeleteI associate fraction with that scenario becaucse it made my story easy to explain.....by saying half you would kno exactly how much i ate.....instead of sayin i ate four slices of pizza which is soo wordy
ReplyDeleteusing a whole number in my scenario instead of a fraction would make my story too wordy.....
ReplyDeletei use fractions when calculating my overall percentage for all my courses
ReplyDeleteso far i have 1/4 of the overall marks in math 110d
ReplyDeletei incorporated fractions in this scenario because i taught that it would not have been appropriate to state the exact value because i don't want everybody to know my business..:).lol. so it was easier to state the abbreviated value of it...
ReplyDeletein my scenario if i was to use a whole number i might have used up all my money.. because if i only had a dollar an i was supposed to use 5/10 of that which is 50cents.. then i would not be able to see this exact value because it would have to be a whole number
ReplyDeleteanother way i used fractions today is when i read 1/10 of my 120 page book.. i also learned some new words..lol
ReplyDeletei associated fractions with this scenario because it would be more convenient for me to read 1/10 of the book in case i have others things to do..
ReplyDeleteif i had to use a whole number in my scenario instead that would mean that i would have to read the whole book instead of segments.. an i would not like this especially if the book is boring and i have to study for maths 110d ..lol.. so it would be easier to read a book piece by piece because of my hectic schedule.
ReplyDeleteWell today i used a fraction of 20 dollars to travel to school.
ReplyDeletei associated this scenario with fractions because a fractiion is a simply way of expressing part of something...anything and i used part of somthing-20 dollars.
ReplyDeleteif i had used the whole 20 dollars i would have had to eat cheap snacks for lunch.
ReplyDeletemy mum gave me half of roti today.lol.
ReplyDeletei bought a supligen for 7.50.which is 7 whole dollars and .50 of a dollar which is 50cents.
ReplyDeletei ate slice of pizza, i spent a fraction of my $20 to purchase food, i used a fraction of hal of an hour to reach to utt
ReplyDeleteif a whole no was used i would have to eat a whole pizza, i would have to spend the whole $20 in the cafeteria
ReplyDeletei spent a fraction of my money to by lunch
ReplyDeletei spent a fraction of the day playing cards or some times the whole day
ReplyDeletei ate a fraction of a bread today and i also spent a fraction of my allowance.
ReplyDeletei associate a fraction with this scenario because if i spend all of my allowance i wouldn't have have money left for the next day and if i eat a hole loaf of bread i mite puke.
ReplyDeletei will be broke the next day and i will be over weight in a weeks time.
ReplyDeletei bought a 5pc in KFC
ReplyDeleteand could of only eat 3 pieces of chicken
so therefore i ate 3/5
which is 60% of my KFC bought
the whole no. whould be a percentage
as said above 60%
there was eight girls in my class which has a total of thirty students. therefore staing in a fraction form= 8/30
ReplyDeletei also spent a 1/2 of my $20 to get lunch.
ReplyDeletewell now is test time and we have to study...so, i have to divide my time among my various courses as well as taking time to relax and rest, bathe etc.
ReplyDeleteif there were no such thing as a fraction, how would i divide the time?
ReplyDeleteif we had to do everything based on whole numbers alone, then i would have to spend the whole day sleeping, or studying one subject or bathing or eating...living would be unbearable and non-sensical
ReplyDeletei had a fraction of a pie this morning
ReplyDeletei use a fraction of my day doing school then the other half relaxing
ReplyDeletei used a fraction of my money in transport
ReplyDeleteI spent 2/5 of my $100 allowance writing these blogs
ReplyDeletethats how I used fractions today and I spent 1/8 of my 24 hr day writing them
I associated fractions with thst last scenario cause if a whole number was used
ReplyDeletelets say
1
that would have meant I spent my ENTIRE
day blogging
and if a whole number above one was used well that would have meant I spent more than one day only blogging doing nothing else
so its important that we can integrate functions into our everyday life cause we need to divide stuff our time, our money, our food ( cant eat that whole cake)
i spend about half my day to finish the safety project once n 4 all... not me again !
ReplyDeletei use fractions when calculating my overall percentage for all my courses
ReplyDeleteI ate 1/2 a roti for breakfast 2day....
ReplyDeletewell i associated my scenario with fractions because i ate a portion of a whole roti
ReplyDeleteif a whole number was used instead i would of eaten the whole roti and i would of been really full!!!! lol
ReplyDeleteI play music, and at the beginning of the first bar there is a time signature which gives the 'count' of a measure. So there are frations in music! Example> 3/4 = time signature.
ReplyDeleteIf the time signature reads 3/4, this means that there are three(3) beats per a whole bar! A whole (1) bar consists of four notes. So 3/4 actually means 3 beats to every bar!
ReplyDeleteIf a whole number was used in the place of a comon fraction for the time signature it would be nonsense to a musician.
ReplyDeleteExample> 1 means nothing...but 4/4 means four beats per bar (full bar)!! While 1 and 4/4 may be the same, there is a tremendous difference.
the term fraction gives me the impression, that it is always a piece/part of a whole quantity.
ReplyDeletea situation where i have used fractions is sword training.
in sword training, there are multiple combinations of moves and techniques that come together o form/launch an attack on the opponent or to block an attack from the opponent.
ReplyDeleteFractions make it possible to combine various skills and moves.
if fractions did not exist,
it would be impossible to have a successful duel. the would only be one move allowed.
how would that work?
thinking about it,
ReplyDeletethere are no situations i can find that do not involve fractions. every little task is broken up into tiny parts that involve fractions.
fractions are apart of life we use it 24 hours a day 7 days a week. From morning to night. fractions are there to signify small changes.from the amount of time spent on the television to having a slice of pizza fractions are every where.
ReplyDeleteif whole numbers were used instead of fractions we would not be able to differentiate small changes.
